You've inspired me I've always wanted to cosplay as Merida, and I have the same kind of hair, but a little bit darker. I always wanted to use my real hair as well, no wig, but I was nervous about people being like, NO IT HAS TO BE BRIGHT RED blah blah
I love how realistic this looks! I'm so used to seeing bright red and orange wigs and admittedly cheesy fabric choices for the dress, but you have done a FANTASTIC job bringing this character to the real world! I can't even tell if you're wearing a wig or not. It looks so natural that I don't think I'd believe it was a wig if you told me it was, so I'm going to assume it's your actual hair. On top of the costume, you're an actual, young-looking cosplayer taking on the role of a young character! Seriously, this is amazing. Bravo.
It is indeed my real hair, which is what pushed me to cosplay her in the first place~ I very very excited when I saw that Disney was coming out with a princess who has my hair! On top of that, her relationship with her mother is very similar to my own, so she really is like the Scottish, medieval version of myself.
And as far as continuing the natural look, I wore nothing more than foundation, concealer, and the lightest bit of brown mascara. I chose blue contacts that were extremely natural because I didn't want to make myself look cartoon-like.
I'm really glad you loved it enough to write out a review for me!
No problem! I'm so appreciative of cosplayers. I see that you bought your costume instead of making it, but hey, that was a lot of money spent and I don't blame you for wanting to buy it; it looks great! Wow, those contacts certainly do look natural! I couldn't even tell you were wearing any. Where did you get colored contacts that look so natural?
